Situated in the western part of the Twin Cities area, Wayzata is a city with an estimated population of 3,688. Wayzata was named after a Lakota Sioux phrase, which means “North Shore”. It is located in Hennepin County, on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, making it a popular tourist destination. The Lake Minnetonka area was originally inhabited by the Mdewakanton Dakota, one of the sub-tribes of the Dakota nation.
