Located eight miles west of Minneapolis in Hennepin County, Minnetonka is a suburban city with an estimated population of 49,734. The area’s first settlers were the Dakota and Ojibwe Indians. Minnetonka was named after the Dakota Indian mni tanka, which means “great water.” Throughout the years, the area has evolved from heavily wooded wilderness through extensive farming and thriving industrialization to its present primarily residential suburban character.

Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce – The Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce ensures that the South Lake Minnetonka Area remains front and center for visitors and residents through business. The chamber promotes members’ companies, products and services through phone inquiries, web presence, email blasts and print communications to members, as well as through Chamber-sponsored hospitality, promotions and meetings.
